Relaxation Tips for Mums and Dads
By Rachel Newcombe
Life as a parent can be exhausting, and there are bound to be days when you end up feeling frazzled. If you’re in need of some time out and pampering, read on to discover our top relaxation tips!
1. Pamper yourself: Treat yourself to a manicure or pedicure, have your hair done, or go out for a romantic meal. Whatever feels right for you!
2. Wonderful water: Water works wonders for helping ease the stresses and strains of daily life. Persuade some friends to look after your children, and run yourself a lovely warm bath. Light candles or fill the bath with luxurious essential oils or bath essence. Or, book yourself in for a floatation session – it’s a unique experience, and you’ll relax in no time.
3. Go shopping for you: All too often, you’re having to buy essentials for your children or go shopping with them all in tow, but this time go on your own, have a good dose of retail therapy and buy yourself a treat.
4. Foot therapy: If you’re on your feet a lot, get someone to give you a relaxing foot rub. Alternatively, invest in a portable foot spa and enjoy the warmth of bubbling water (children love this too!).
5. Have a walk: Get out in the fresh air and enjoy a gentle stroll in a local park, or in the countryside. Just breathing in the air and feeling the wind blowing through your hair can do you the world of good. Don’t be put off if it’s raining – it can be just as invigorating!
6. Take a Break: Escaping for a break, even if it’s only a few hours or one night away at a country hotel, can make all the difference. If you manage to go for a night, make the most of your time – enjoy a meal and wine, a walk in the air, take time to catch up on sleep, if you’re with a partner make time to talk and enjoy each other’s company.
7. Try something new: Think about those things you’ve always meant to do, but have never had the time, and for once and for all go and do them! Be adventurous and enjoy the experience.
8. Do nothing: This can actually be surprisingly tricky! Sit back, relax, and do absolutely nothing. Enjoy the peace and quiet, or listen to some gentle music and allow yourself to drift off.
9. Eat something delicious: Cook yourself your favourite meal (instead of eating whatever the children are having), or book a table at your favourite restaurant.
10. Laughter therapy: Get together with friends, catch up on each other’s news and enjoy a good laugh. It’s a great way of relaxing, plus it will improve your overall state of mind, too.
